Our Iowa Workforce
Johnson County should have its new minimum wage immediately. This is a simple example of local control being taken away and the citizens' voices being ignored. Johnson County has demonstrated its focus on developing a stronger workforce and creating a livable wage, so the legislature should not interfere. Johnson County should be allowed to lead this fight across the state instead of being constrained by the legislature.
But a minimum wage increase across the state is not enough. Iowa must also focus on modernizing its economy to provide strong, good paying jobs well above any minimum wage. Iowa should work to be an attractive place for quality companies to invest. Meanwhile, Iowa must not overlook the small business innovation and entrepreneurship that provides healthy growth throughout the state.
